Abstract:Development of EAF steelmaking in China is reviewed. Because the scrap and the electric power are in short supply, the difficulty of EAF steelmaking is that the EAF steel cost is higher than that of converter steel. And this has resulted that the rate of EAF steel is decreasing year after year, as second case since 1990 in China. There are three measures to deal with this difficulty the first one is producing high added value steel, the second one is shortening the tap to tap time and decreasing cost by adding a part of hot metal and using more oxygen in EAF steclmaking; and the third one is guiding the steelmaking plants to carry out the second round investment to develop the modern electric arc furnace.
