Abstract:The argon flow rate has a significant effect on the flow pattern distribution. Therefore, determining the influence of the argon flow rate on the flow pattern has an important influence on improving the quality of the slab. In the current study, the effects of the argon flow rate on the flow pattern distribution in the mold were studied using the nail board experiment, and the variation of the level fluctuation was quantitatively analyzed. The results showed that the flow pattern gradually changed from DRF to CRF and SRF with the increase of the argon flow rate. During the conversion of DRF into CRF and SRF, the velocity and surface level near the nozzle gradually increased. The meniscus velocity distribution gradually transformed into from the nozzle to the narrow face. The level fluctuations were also increased accordingly. Therefore, the appropriate argon flow rate should be selected to avoid the generation of CRF and SRF to improve the quality of the slab.
