Abstract:In order to research the effect of roll gap reduction on reducing the centerline segregation of slab, the temperature and solidification shrinkage of a slab were calculated by numerical simulation, the distribution of the solidified shell thickness and solidification shrinkage along the metallurgical length were analyzed, then three sets of roll gap reduction were built,tested and their effects were compared. The results show that the roll gap reduction within 23 segments before the solidification end is effective to reduce the centerline segregation, and the roll gap reduction rate should be a little more than the slab solidification shrinkage.
