Abstract:The strong instability of -40℃ longitudinal impact strength of E42 shipbuilding steel observed in trial production was studied by using different processes. The results show that for twophase rolling, the structure with mixed crystals is formed in product due to rolling in partially recrystallized zone caused by the effect of rolling piece thickness increment on deformation temperature of nonrecrystallized zone, and as the result, the low temperature impact strength of product is reduced. On the other hand, the granular bainite is formed during cooling at improper rate after rolling, making low temperature impact strength lower, too.
