Abstract:In order to calculate the inhomogeneous deformation in ovalround pass sequence of wire rolling, the principle of the equivalent rectangular approximation method was adopted. It was found that the overlapping area between the two equivalent rectangular sections is the key factor to solve the effective strain. The stock sections at entry and at exit were supposed to be oval and the shear strains were ignored. Then a new analytic method called OA (Overlapping Area) method without using rectangular sections conversion to solve the effective strain was proposed. To valid the OA method, the temperature jump during finish rolling of 6.5 mm wire was calculated. The results show that the calculated accumulative temperature jump was in good agreement with the measured ones with a maximum relative error less than 10%. A regression model for the relationship between total temperature jump and entry temperature was thus obtained. The model shows that total temperature jump almost increases linearly with decreasing entry temperature.
