Numerical Simulation of Slab Temperature Field During Reheating and Its Application

Abstract:A mathematical model for slabs heated in a 3zone walking beam reheating furnace was established.The finite difference method was used for discretion of the mathematical model and a computational software was developed.The influence of the slab width on slab temperature was studied. It was found that for 200 mmthick slab, when the width was above 600 mm, the slab width had no influence on the slab center temperature. According to the result, the slab reheating process was optimized for productivity enhancement and energy saving.
