Abstract:In order to analyze the distribution of internal frictional force and determine the least layer number for expansion of coiler, the coiling process was studied with FEM. For strips from 5 mm to 20 mm in thickness,and the layer number from 2 to 5, the internal metal flow in strip and nodes at innermost layer nodes during coiling was studied with relative displacement of strip head as a criterion,and the conditions of no loose winding during coiling were determined. The results indicated that the distribution of frictional force is changed from layer to layer,and 5 layers of strip are enough for stable coiling. The study is useful for improving the metal yield and reducing the wear of auxiliary roller.
