Abstract:By adopting TMCP technique, the microstructure and mechanical properties of boronadded steel and boronfree steel were studied. Experimental result shows that the strength of boronadded steel is noticeably higher than that of boronfree steel, while the elongation and impact energy are lower, and the impact energy is unstable when they are at the same cooling conditions. For highstrength ship structural steel EH50, the strength and elongation can meet the demand of Shipping Bureau with boronadded steel, but the impact energy is unsuitable. On the other hand, the strength and toughness of boronfree steel can well match; boronfree steel has lower ductilebrittle transition temperature. It is suggested that in mass production boronfree steel should be used to produce highstrength ship structural steel EH50.
