Formation Mechanism of the Centerline Segregation of Continuous Casting Slab and Soft Reduction Technology

Abstract:In order to clear the formation mechanism of the centerline segregation of continuous casting slab, the centerline zone was scanned by original position statistic distribution analysis (OPA). It was found that macro-segregation is made up of the positive segregation band and the negative segregation band in the centerline zone. Furthermore, C, P and S content show obvious negative segregation around the centerline positive segregation band. The formation mechanism of this centerline zone macro-segregation is presented. Finally, the reduction rate and the critical solid phase rate in the soft reduction technology were deduced, and the results mainly agreed with predecessors. All of things show the formation mechanism has rationality to some extent.
