Numerical Simulation for Effect of Width on Flow Field of Slab Continuous Casting Mould

Abstract:Slab continuous casting mould was calculated by software fluent 6.3, the effects of mould width on the flow field were investigated. It is concluded that: as for mould of 230mm thickness,as the increase of mould width, maximum horizontal velocity on the level liquid decreases, then approaches to a flat, maximum velocity perpendicular to level liquid and velocity of impact point on the narrow side decrease; when the mould width are 1400mm,1600mm and 2150mm, and the distance to the narrow side are 460mm,540mm and 750mm, horizontal velocity on the level liquid reach the maximum, the impact points on the narrow side are 370mm, 400mm and 460mm to the level liquid, and the velocity on the impact point are 5.2cm·s-1, 4.4cm·s-1 and 2.5cm·s-1.
