Abstract：High strength steel with yield strength of 600MPa was investigated under ultra fast cooling process compared with laminar cooling process. An analysis was therefore made via testing for mechanical properties, SEM, TEM and EDS. The results show that the ultra fast cooling process can improve the performance of steel compared with the conventional laminar cooling process；the amount of yield and tensile strength are increased by 90MPa and 60MPa respectively； the yield strength, tensile strength and elongation are 670, 740MPa and 19%, and impact energy at -20℃ is 105J; good strength and toughness are obtained under ultra fast cooling process. The microstructure of steel under ultrafast cooling process is fine ferrite, and good strength is caused by the refinement of ferrite and precipitates.
