Abstract:The roll profile electromagnetic control technology is an emerging method to control roll shape through electromagnetic roll adjustment.Based on the fact that circumferential strain equals to radial strain on the roll surface, a new method of roll profile electromagnetic control technologywas proposed and detailed, and the method could be used for for measuring electromagnetic control roll crown variation with time in idle state. In this paper, in order to verify the feasibility of this method, a roll profile electromagnetic control experimental platformwas designed and built, and then the experiments were carried out.The experimental results were comparedwith the measurements forradius variation of the roll midpoint by using a dial gauge. The comparison shows that the method is able to precisely achieve the real-time measurement of the electromagnetic control roll in idle state, thereby further demonstrating the change for the electromagnetic control roll profile under different conditions.The new measuring approach lays a foundation for the further modeling of the relationship between the process parameters and the roll profile adjustment.
