Theoretical analysis of effect of zirconic inclusions on heterogeneous nucleation of copper in steel

Abstract:It is necessary to research the heterogeneous nucleation precipitation of copper for reducing the grain boundary segregation of copper in steel. The zirconic inclusions in steel are taken as the nucleation substrate. Thermodynamic calculation of precipitation conditions of ZrO2,ZrC and ZrN in test steel has been carried out,and the heterogeneous nucleation ability between copper and zirconic inclusions in steel has been theoretically calculated by planar lattice disregistry and empirical electron theory. The results show that the lattice disregistry between Cu and ZrO2,ZrC,ZrN is 1.17%,9.53%,11.71% respectively. The parameter of empirical electron theory is 1.906,1.124 5,1.070 respectively. The smaller the lattice disregistry is and the larger parameter is,the more effective the substrate is for promoting nucleation. The calculation results of empirical electron theory is consistent with the calculation results of planar lattice disregistry. ZrO2 is the most effective heterogeneous nucleation substrate of copper,while ZrC and ZrN are moderately effective. The calculation results of two methods show that the zirconic inclusions in steel can be used as the substrate of heterogeneous nucleation of copper.
