Abstract:Concerning the fact that ladle shroud cannot strictly point to the center of turbo-stopper in the tundish, based on eight-strand T-shape tundish,3D numerical simulation has been done to illustrate the influence of misalignment to flow field. At the same time, new type of flow control device has been designed and its metallurgical effect has been validated by numerical simulation and industrial test. The results indicate that the offset distance of ladle shroud will worsen tundish flow field. When the offset distance is 50 mm,the turbulence and velocity largely increase on the surface of impact zone, which increases the risk of slag entrapment, and the dead zone rate is 4% larger than that of well alignment. The new type of flow control device can 50% decrease the surface turbulence, which leads to more peaceful surface and less risk of slag entrapment, and the dead zone changes little. And so the purity of steel increases, which is authenticated by industrial test results that the pass percent of B and C inclusions 6% increases respectively.
