Influence of “Subsection Cooling” Process on Mechanical Properties of Low Carbon Medium Plate |

Abstract Considering that real controlled rolling and controlled cooling cannot be realized if rolling capacity is insufficient, it is necessary to increase mechanical properties of test steel by designing proper rolling technique. Effects of controlled cooling process on the mechanical properties and microstructures have been investigated in the paper. The results show that adopting controlled cooling system to cool the test steel can enhance mechanical properties of test steel and reduce banded structure compared with adopting air cooling. During controlled cooling, not only start cooling temperature affects mechanical properties of test steel, but also subsection cooling mode can increase mechanical properties of test steel. By adopting fore-stage cooling dominated process the yield strength increases about 50MPa, tensile strength increases about 30MPa, with an excellent plasticity and low-temperature toughness compared with that by adopting aft-stage cooling dominated process.
