| Exergy Analysis of Grate-Kiln Iron Ore Pellets Induration Process |

Abstract Exergy balance test and exergy analysis have been conducted to investigate the thermodynamic characteristics of iron ore pellets induration process in a grate-kiln plant in order to economize energy. And a diagram of exergy flows in the plant helps to identify the sources and quantify the exergy losses. Further, the exergy analysis reveals that the irreversibility of heat transfer and combustion is the major source of exergy destruction. And the effects of some important operating parameters, such as flow rates, porosity in pellet bed, height of bed, diameter of pellets, percent oxygen of gases, on the exergy losses have been studied. At last, the result shows that by reasonably decreasing flow rates, height of bed, and diameter of pellets, and increasing porosity in pellet bed, the exergy losses could be reduced, and reveals that by control of parameter of percent oxygen ranging 9.0-11.0% in the kiln, the exergy destruction reaches the minimum at percent carbon dioxide ranging 1.0-9.0%.
