Abstract It is very important and difficult to control surface quality of cold rolled and hot dip galvanized strip from the strip produced by CSP. Different kinds of surface defects are observed on the surface. For removing defects, defect types, working procedure and control points must be determined firstly. A kind of surface defect is described, and the reasons and control methods are discussed in detail. The parameters of secondary refining and thin slab casting were adjusted，to control surface defects of hot dip galvanized strip effectively.
