Study on Sintering of Chromite Fines |

Abstract Sintering parameters of imported chromite fines,including coke dosage, moisture, bed depth and suction sintering during, were studied by sintering pot test. The results show that conventional sintering process can be applied to the chromite fines and chromite sinter can be used as the charge for EAF to produce ferrochromium.Sintering of chromite fines is characterised by wide combustion zone (75.00 mm),high sintering temperature (14501500 ℃) and longer cooling time. Furthermore, it was found that the consolidation of chromite sinter is the result of about 20% liquid olivine phase,recrystallization of Cr2O3 in solid state contributs to sinter strength to some extent. The successful sintering of chromite fines will technically support Chinese ferroalloy industry to produce ferrochromium on cheap chromite fines at low cost.
