Abstract Water-cooled bainitic steel used in hydraulic shelves pillar was developed to increase the hardenability of steels and trial production was carried out. The water-cooled bainitic steel developed with non-expensive alloy element shows excellent combination of strength and toughness, processing high-performance and can meet the need of hardenability of pillar with a diameter blow 300mm. Granualr bainite was obtained after Ф300 pillar quenched by water, and yield strength, tensile strength and toughness at -20 oC of Ф300 pillar are greater than 620 MPa, 850MPa, 65 J repectively.
