Abstract Although nonBF ironmaking processes are developing, BF ironmaking process would still hold its leading position in future in the world. The key for Chinese ironmaking industry is to modify and upgrade operations. Attention should be paid on enlarging BF volume properly, improving configuration and operation indexes, perfecting monitoring and controls, choosing proper energy saving and emission reducing methods, etc. Decreasing the ratio of hot metal to steel is the most effective measure to reduce CO2 emission for steel industry.
