Abstract The phase transformation and weight loss rate of ludwigite in oxidizing roasting were studied by DTATG, isothermal TG and XRD. The results show that magnetite is transformed into hematite, serpentine is decomposed into forsterite at lower temperature (T<700 ℃). The dehydration and transformation into suanite of decomposed of szaibelyite at about 700 ℃ is the main reason of ludwigite weight loss. It was found by XRD that paigeite and magnoferrite are the most stable component without phase tromsformation during oxidizing roasting.
