Abstract Based on strengthening mechanism of microalloy element Nb and productive technology of bar steel, effect of the composition and rolling parameters on the mechanical properties was investigated. The optimal parameters are:w(Ceq)≥0.39%, w(Nb)=0.02%0.04% and watercooling after rolling for slit rolled rebars. For onestrand rolling process, watercooling is not necessary. According to regression analysis, for slit rolled rebars, the yield strength and tensile strength of rebar can reach 17 MPa and 15 MPa respectively by an increase of Nb content by 0.01%. The tensile strength of 585655 MPa and the yield strength of 405505 MPa are reached for massproduced 20MnSiNb by controlling the composition and rolling schedule.
