Abstract The current status and development trend of grain oriented silicon steel production are introduced. The difference between thin slab casting and rolling process and traditional processes is analyzed in terms of process characteristics, thermal history, and inhibitor type etc. Based on the potential advantages of producing grain oriented silicon steel by thin slab casting and rolling process, the key technical difficulties to be solved are brought forward.
