Mineralogical Composition and Microstructure of High Basicity Sinters |

Abstract Mineralogical composition and microstructure of high basicity sinters of Laisteel, Baosteel, Ansteel, and Jiusteel were investigated by Xray diffraction, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the high basicity sinter with w(CaO)/w(SiO2)=1.84~2.11 is mainly composed of hematite, magnetite, calcium ferrate, and calcium silicate. The hematite are rhombic and of automorphic crystals and small quantity of allotriomorphic crystals interfaced with calcium ferrite obviously. The magnetite is granular and of allotriomorphic crystals, cementing with calcium ferrite to form corrosion structure. Calcium ferrate is mainly of columnar and acicular form. The β calcium silicate are granular or columnar, between which the columnar or acicular calcium ferrites are existed. In addition, the increase of Al2O3 content in the binding liquid phase of high basicity sinters is useful to promote formation of acicular calcium ferrate.
