Abstract Baosteel No.3 BF has been running smoothly for over fourteen years, and created a lots of economical technical index records. Many experiences of prolonging the campaign life are obtained. The following measures are taken. Reasonable design of the cooling system ensures smoothly operation and easily maintenance. Besides, we guarantee the qualified ore and coke and control the quantity of alkali metals and Zinc. The running smooth of BF and avoiding change of the BF flow rapidly are sustained by operating. Enough cooling intensity and melioration and stable water quality are needed in necessarily for the safety of shaft. Many steps such as installing cooling cigar, making wall artificially, pushing plasma, gunning, replacing the cooling ware have been taken, the long life of the hearth and crucible is relying on the quantity of the clay and reasonable iron notch, at the same time, the side temperature is in range by control.
