Research on Deoxidation Theory During KR Hot Metal Desulphurization Process |

Abstract The oxygen content in hot metal was theoretically calculated based on [Al]-[O] equilibrium as well as [C]-[O] equilibrium at 1573K by the formulas of the minimum deoxidation balance theory in metal phase. The calculated minimum oxygen content is about 34×10-6 or 0.015×10-6 controlled by [C]-[O] or [Al]-[O] equilibrium, respectively. The calculated minimum oxygen content controlled by [C]-[O] equilibrium is about 4 times as great as the determined oxygen content by [C]-[O] equilibrium. Therefore, the oxygen potential of hot metal was controlled during KR hot metal desulphurization process by the aluminum deoxidation process. In addition, the calculated results show that the silicon deoxidation ability is far lower than that of carbon as well as aluminum during hot metal pretreatment operations, and the formulas of the minimum deoxidation balance theory in metal phase can be used to determine oxygen content in hot metal pretreatment with good accurate. The calculated results show that the deoxidation reaction by adding about 0.44kg aluminum per ton hot metal can make hot metal temperature increase 20℃. This function can to some degree counteract the temperature decrease caused by stirring and adding dedesulfurizer during KR hot metal desulphurization process.
