Abstract The emission of carbon dioxide in the iron and steelmaking process is about 16% of that in the industrial system. How to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide and take use of carbon dioxide is one of main problems that has attracted many steel engineers’ attention. In order to take the utilization of carbon dioxide as a resource in steelmaking process, application of carbon dioxide as stirring gas, reaction media and protection gas was analyzed at home and abroad, and previous research on the application of carbon dioxide in steelmaking process was introduced.
