Effect of Na2O on dephosphorization for high phosphorus SiMn alloys |

Abstract In order to study the effect of Na2O addition in basic slag on removal of phosphorus from SiMn alloys,dephosphorization thermodynamics of[w(P)]SiMn alloys (0.95%) at 1 400 ℃ was investigated by using CaO-SiO2-CaF2 slags, which contained small amounts of Na2O. The present study focused on the effect of small amounts of Na2O addition on the phosphorous distribution ratio between slags and alloys[(LP),] the phosphide capacity of the slags[(CP),] and the effect of basicity of the slags on[LP]with the replacement of CaO by Na2O. The results indicate that[LP]and[CP]increase with increasing [w(Na2O);] when the[w(Na2O)]in the final slags is over 1.75%, both of them keep constant. The basicity of final slags increases with increasing the replacement of CaO by Na2O. However, when the basicity is over 3.655, namely, the replacement of CaO by Na2O is over 3.19%, the[O2-]concentration in the slags reaches saturation and[LP]keeps constant consequently.
