Abstract Based onindustrial ore blending, experiments were conducted with 4 kinds of iron ore powders (OA, OB, OC and OD) and bentonite as binder to analyze the effects of MgO and TiO2 on the metallurgical properties of pellets and further to propose the optimal content parameters of TiO2 and MgO, providing the theoretical foundation of production ofmagnesia vanadium titanium pellets. The results show that as[w(MgO)]increases from 1.25% to 2.34%, the compressive strength of pellets decreases from 2 511 N/P to 2 453 N/P, and reduction swelling index decreases by 13.17%. A[w(TiO2)]increases from 3.97% to 5.07%, the compressive strength of pellets decreases from 2 511 N/P to 2 383 N/P, and reduction swelling index decreasesslightly. As[w(MgO)]increases from 1.32% to 2.38%, the cohesive zone decreases by 40%, demonstrating a positive influence of MgO on the melt-down property of pellets. The decrease in reducibility of pellets is a result of the increase of hard-to-reduce MgO solid solutions in pellets. The optimal blending parameters of best comprehensive metallurgical properties are OA iron ore powders of 50%, OB of 21%, OC of 10%, OD of 19%, bentonite of 1.8%.
