Abstract In order to improve manganese yield of manganese ore direct alloying ,according to the results of thermodynamic analysis, the influence factors of reducing the manganese distribution ratio between slag and steel were determined. The analysis results showed that improving the temperature and the activity of carbon were the necessary conditions to reduce the manganese distribution ratio between slag and steel. The test scheme of induction furnace was designed, and the experimental research was carried out. Results showed that the average yield of direct alloying of manganese in manganese ore was 90.8% with reducing agent in the refining slag. The manganese distribution ratio was the lowest with the carbon addition of 1.2 -1.4 in silicon carbide as the reducing agent. The manganese distribution ratio between slag and steel could be effectively reduced at high temperature and high carbon content. Process parameters such as bottom blowing strength and manganese ore addition could affect direct alloying of manganese ore. The harmful influence of the addition of manganese ore and reducing agent on the phosphorus and sulfur in steel should be controlled.
