Abstract Welded steel pipes have been widely used in the fields of the petroleum chemistry, the electric power industry, the agricultural irrigation and the network construction of urban pipe. Ensuring the weld quality was the focus of the industry attention, as the high frequency welded pipes were increasingly applied in the poor conditions of the workplace. The highfrequency straight seam welding and the heat treatment and its influence on the weld quality from three aspects are introduced: the temperature field, the residual stress, the microstructure and the mechanical properties, in order to reveal the development status and development trend of the subject. The limitation of the technology of the high frequency longitudinal welding research was that it was difficult to establish a more adaptive multiparameter integrated mathematical model. The future development direction of the high frequency longitudinal welding technology was high precision and intelligent.
