Abstract In order to improve the quality of sinter of import iron ore,the mineralogical structure characteristics of sinters of different import iron ore were studied. The influence of import iron ore on the mineralogical structure was analyzed, and the quantitative relationship between the mineralogical characteristics and metallurgical properties of sinters was found. The results show that sinter (No.1) of Stramac ore powder and Tianfahai ultra-fine ore powder has more content of calcium ferrite, mainly interlaced corrosion structure, partially granular-patchy structure, and the low-temperature reduction disintegration index(RDI_{>3.15 mm}) is better; however, the tumbler index(TI) is low because of the high porosity. Sinters(No.4 and No.5) of Newman ore powder, PB ore powder, and Yangdi ore powder, sinter(No.5) contains more content of hematite and lower content of calcium ferrite, mainly with melting-granular structure, eutectic structure locally, the tumbler index(TI) is the highest, but the low-temperature reduction disintegration index(RDI_{>3.15 mm}) is bad; while the(No.4) sinter contains more content of Newman ore powder and PB ore powder mainly interlaced corrosion structure. Locally, the granular-patchy structure appeared, and the tumbler index was low. Sinters(No.2 and No.3) of Newman ore powder and Debao MAC ore powder, sinter(No.3) has the largest content of calcium ferrite, the mineralogical structure is more homogeneous, and the interlacing dissolution structure is the main part. The needle-like calcium ferrite interlaced the hematite of its shape, and the quality of the sinter is the best; while sinter (No.2) contain a higher content of Newman ore powder and Debao ore MAC powder, and the content of Hematite is high, but the calcium ferrite is low, the vitreous content is high, the interlaced corrosion structure is dominant, the granular-patchy structure appears locally, and its low-temperature reduction disintegration index(RDI_{>3.15 mm}) is bad. It is suggested that Newman ore powder,a small amount of MAC ore powder, Yangdi ore powder and super fine ore powder as the main iron-containing raw materials, which has improved the quality of the sinter.
