Abstract In order to extract and recover iron from Ansteel eastern iron tailings, the influence factors on the performance of suspension magnetization roasting and magnetic separation of high-intensity magnetic concentrate (w(TFe) 26.50%) from Ansteel eastern iron tailings were investigated. Magnetization roasting device is a laboratory-batch scale fluidized reactor and it was performed under mixed CO and N₂atmosphere. The optimized conditions were determined as the gas flow of 800 mL/min, the roasting temperature of 600 ℃, the CO concentration of 25%, and the reduction time of 2.5 min. The roasted products were ground to 90% passing 0.023 mm, and then a high-grade magnetic concentrate containing 65.91% w(TFe) with an iron recovery of 94.06% was obtained. According to the phase analysis, it can be seen that the hematite and limonite were selectively reduced to magnetite under the above roasting conditions,realizing precise control of phase transformation of iron minerals.
