Abstract:The formation causes of surface transversal cracks of S355NL continuous casting round bloom was investigated using macrostructure and microstructure solidified structure analysis, and energy spectrum composition of crack zone was also analyzed. According to analyzed results, it can be inferred that transversal cracks originate from mould, cracks propagate in the secondary cooling system, and then cracks are dilacerated in the straightening stage. Surface transversal cracks were prevented through improving continuous casting speed by 8.69%, decreasing secondary cooling strength by 10%, and adopting special peritectic steel mould slag.
