Development of Electromagnetic Brake Technique and Application in Slab Continuous Casting Mold

Abstract:The development of EMBr in slab continuous casting mold, its current research conditions and its effect in metallurgy were reviewed. The EMBr can be used to control fluid flow,to stabilize meniscus, to reduce the entrapment of mold powder, to eliminate nonmetallic inclusions in the mold, and hence to improve the slab quality and increase the casting speed possible. The results show that the effect factors of EMBr are slab width, casting speed, the shape of submerged entry nozzle(SEN) and so on.
