Abstract:A numerical simulation was carried out to study the flow field and the removal of inclusions in slab continuous casting under the condition that the slide gate opened along the direction vertical the wide face of the mold. the work result showed that when the slide gate opened partially, the molten steel flow in the nozzle presented a high excursion, a circumfluence was formed under the slide gate, and a single sided percussion flow took shape in the bottom of the nozzle, and the molten steel flow was rotary at the outport of the nozzle. The removal of inclusions increased with the augmentation of particle diameter, when the diameter was 0.5 millimeter, all inclusions could be removed out. The removal of inclusions increased obviously when the slide gate partially opened.
