Abstract:Abstract:A 3-D mathematical model for fluid flow, solidification and inclusions movement in continuous casting is built based on CFD. Influence of solid shell on fluid flow and inclusions movement is studied by considering the SEN configuration and the slab curvature. The inclusions floating rate and distribution in slab are obtained. The results indicate that the solidification is an important factor for the fluid flow. The length of re-circulation region in the strand with solidification is shorter than that without solidification, because the solidified shell would hinder downward flow of fluid. The fluid moves toward the slab center along the solid shell after it flows out of the lower re-circulation region. The inclusions floating rate with solidification is higher than that without solidification.
