Abstract:In May, 2011, the slab casting machine with the biggest section went into production in Nanyang Hanye Special Steel Co., Ltd. In the initial stage of production, many longitudinal surface cracks appeared on the slab, which resulted in high unqualified rate of the rolled plates . Through field survey and data analysis, we found longitudinal surface cracks were related to cooling intensity of the casting mold and uneven secondary cooling. By adopting a series of control measures, such as regulating the raising casting speed curve for the first heat of the tundish, adjusting the insertion depth of the submersed nozzle and strengthening equipment management, the problem of longitudinal surface cracks on the heavy slab was effectively solved and the first qualified rate of the surface of the casting slab was stably raised to 99.2%.
