Study on heat transfer and mechanical behavior of two dimensional mold copper plate

Abstract:Mold is the key component of continuous casting. The thermal and mechanical behaviors of mold would affect the slab quality and mold life. Based on finite element method, a full scale finite-element model of mold was built, including four copper plates, nickel layer and water slots with different depths. An inverse algorithm was applied to calculate the heat flux through the measured temperatures by thermocouples buried inside the mold plates, so the numerical model was combined with the measured data. Based on the model, the temperature, stress and distortion were analyzed, and it will be helpful for the process optimization and structure design for the slab continuous casting mold.
