Mathematical and physical simulation of flow field of molten steel in three-strand tundish |

Abstract The flow field of molten steel in the three-strand tundish has been researched by the commercial software CFX and the water simulation. After analyzing and comparing the flow state of the original and improved tundish, the results have been made as follow: The results of mathematical and physical simulation are same. The short road flow is found in the original tundish, the volume of dead zone are large and more than get 50%. After the improvement of the tundish, the flow performance of the molten steel in the tundish get better and the dead volume fraction reduce sharply to less than 20%, the minimum value is only 9.41%. The results of industry experiments have been found as follow: After the improvement of the tundish, the biggest temperature difference between near outlet and far outlet decreases from 5℃ to 2℃, the accident rate decreased obviously and the expected metallurgical effects have been achieved.
