Effect of nozzle types on the flow pattern and temperature distribution of the ultra-wide slab continuous casting mold |

Abstract A coupled mathematical model of the melt flow and heat transfer in super-wide slab casting mold was built�� it was computed that the molten steel fluid flow�� level fluctuation and temperature distribution�� and compared their differences in 4-hole�� 5-hole submerged entry nozzle (SEN) and bifurcated SEN. Meanwhile�� the temperature distribution of molten steel at mold outlet was discussed�� in the three nozzle structures. The simulation results showed that the molten steel fluid flow in 4-hole and 5-hole SEN were superior to the bifurcated SEN�� and the temperature distribution of molten steel in 5-hole SEN mold outlet was more beneficial to the solidification of molten steel�� at the same time�� the center segregation was improved.
