Application research on thickness measurement of solidified slab shell by pin-shooting |

Abstract The internal quality requirement of steel in dual-phase steel production process is strict. In particular�� the central segregation of solute elements seriously impacts the performance of steel. Soft reduction at the solidification end in continuous casting process can significantly improve the central segregation and its effectiveness is closely related with the depressed position. Choosing the continuous casting process of dual-phase steel 590DP as a study object�� the exact location of solidification end under different working conditions has been determined by pin-shooting test�� and the prediction model of solidified shell has been constructed using the results of test. For slab of 230 mm��1 200 mm section size�� model prediction has been made for the solidification process under casting speed of 1.0 m/min and 1.2 m/min respectively�� and soft reduction at the solidification end is implemented pertinently. The results show that the internal quality of slab has been improved significantly. The center segregation of slab upgrades from the original B1.0 to C0.5. The Mannesmann standard coincidence rate of the slab center segregation increases from 72% to 95.3%.
