Abstract The choice and experiment situation about special mold slag of nozzle replacement are introduced. The result shows that the slag has a reasonable viscosity and melting property which can evenly cool continuous casting billet and ensure lubrication. At the same time it greatly prevents binding and relieves scab. It will avoid the unmelted mold slag involving into molten steel to form large inclusions. The useless billet reduces by 100.2 ton per month because of the application of special mold slag and that brings obvious economic benefits.
