Diagnosis of instability during trial production of the billet continuous casting in a steel factory in Vietnam |

Abstract Emergency shut-down occurs frequently by steel leakage and automatic shut of tundish slide gate and casting speed is less than 2.5 m/min during trial production of six strand billet caster in a steel plant in Vietnam. Based on the investigation of the process conditions, operation process, equipment configuration, working parameters and other aspects of the production site, combined with the mechanism of steel leakage and cause of automatic shut of tundish slide gate, the accident is analyzed, and finally improvement suggestions are given which mainly are standard and proficient casting operation, reliable mould oscillating, quality submerged nozzle, less slag entrapment in mould, manual intervention to billet congestion after torch cutting and etc. At present, by carried out above improving measures the production of the plant is stable, casting speed is up to 3.25 m/min and the accident of steel leakage and automatic shut of tundish slide gate has been significantly improved.
