Numerical simulation study on single-point unequilibrium casting for beam blank in Laiwu Iron and Steel Company |

Abstract Aimed at the single-point straight nozzle casting of ultrathin and large section beam blank in Laiwu Iron and Steel Company, the coupled numerical simulation for the flow, heat transfer and solidification in the mould have been carried out by software FLUENT. And the effects of different immersion depth of the nozzle, casting speed and superheat on the flow field, temperature field and solidified shell are discussed. The results indicate that the effect of the immersion depth of the nozzle on them is very small, and the effects of the casting speed and superheat on them are greater. Especially, the impact of steel flow, temperature change and growth of solidified shell on the narrow surface of the pouring side are greatly affected by the casting speed and superheat. The results of this study can provide a basis for the optimization of process parameters in actual production.
