Abstract: The connecting rod of continuous caster was cracked in trial running of unit, which fell far short of working time. In order to analyse the cause of fracture, the scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectrometer and optical microscope were used to analyse the fracture, non-metallic inclusions and microstructure in fracture position. The results showed that the main reasons for the fracture of connecting rod of continuous caster were the coarsening of austenite grains and the presence of Widmanstatten structure.
