AbstractLow carbon steel for wire drawing has higher tensile strength in SGIS. The analysis showed that higher tensiles strength was mainly originated from the high content of Cu, As, Sn in steel. In order to decrease tensile strength of steel, the optimization was carried out on properties and composition. The results showed when the average Mn content of steel has been lowered from 0.47% to below 0.25%, the problem of higher tensile strength is resolved on condition of appropriate reduction of trace elements, and thus process performance of low carbon stee1 are improved.
