AbstractThe surface defect on medium and heavy plate Q235B was investigated by means of the optical microscopyscanning electron microscopy and energy spectrum analysis in this paper. The results show that the deoxidizing process of molten steel was imperfectly and a great amount of nonmetallic inclusions and particle of iron oxide existed around the defects. Evidently, the reason of the bubble defects were nonmetallic inclusions and bubbles formed in continuous casting slab, which expand during reheating and rolling. The surface defect belongs to bubble defect. The improvement measures for elimination of these defect are proposed.
