Abstract��The chemical compositions of 55SiC wire were analyzed, and its microfractography and macrofractography were observed by optical microstructure and SEM. The result indicates that the primary cause for surface transverse cracks in the 55SiCr wire is residual bainite of 5~20 ��m in troosite after the heat treatment of the steel. The unevenness in structure bring on the crack and stress.The evolution of crack could result in fracture.
