Abstract ��The steel 80��s scale on wire rod of Shagang was primarily studied. The scale macroscopical feature and the feature of inner and outer surface were observed through SEM. The scale composition was primarily analyzed through XRD. At the same time, the scale thickness was measured. Associated with the oxidation mechanism at high temperatures and by the Tammann��type parabolic equation, the scale thickness was theoretically calculated. This has directive meaning for controlling the scale thickness (weight).��
